Parks Week begins today, and to celebrate, we’ll be acknowledging the months of hard work put in by staff, contractors, volunteers, and other stakeholders to restore access to the tracks and reserves that were damaged by the severe weather in August 2022.

The first park to be featured is Riverside Reserve.

Flooding of the Maitai River caused significant damage to the reserve, which was left covered in thick layers of mud and silt when the floodwaters receded.

Playground surfaces were also likely contaminated by the dirty flood water.

But less than two weeks later, the mud and silt had been removed, the garden beds had been mulched, playground equipment and benches had been sanitised, and the reserve reopened to the public.

Check out this video from August 2022 showing Nelmac hard at work to get the reserve back open.
