The latest info from Nelson Tasman Civil Defence and MetService New Zealand is that rain is expected to continue overnight and into tomorrow.

Warnings remain in place for our region as there is still some risk from the rain over such a long duration.

Travel disruptions are possible, in particular on the State Highways of Tākaka Hill, Motueka Valley, and between Nelson and Marlborough.

Keep up to date with important info over the weekend:

Further info

Emergency accommodation continues for our homeless community without adequate shelter.

Unite Church at 173 Rutherford Street, which was opened overnight on Thursday, will be open again from 8pm Friday 5 May through to 9am Saturday 6 May.

Ongoing accommodation support after this time will be reviewed depending on need and the weather forecast from Saturday into the weekend. A decision on this is expected to be made on Saturday morning.

The church will have tea and coffee facilities, and some food and bedding will be available.

This facility is open as a contingency for our homeless community ONLY, who do not have adequate shelter. Support from social agencies will also be available.

People can self-refer and will be asked to register upon arrival.

THANK YOU to Unite Church and the Salvation Army for their work and the support they continue to provide.
