Whether it’s a light art projection, mural, heritage experience or community art event, Nelson City Council is eager to hear about your projects and help support our vibrant creative community with a grant.

Projects eligible for Council’s Arts and Heritage Partnership can be heritage focused, arts-focused, or a combination of both - Council is keen to hear from anyone who has an idea that will benefit the community.

The grants are available at any time during the year and are designed to be flexible to help our city’s creative and cultural community deliver their projects within short time frames. Applications are assessed as they come in, and applicants can expect a response within 10 working days.

Grants range in size from $500 to $4000, and larger sums may be considered depending on the project size and reach.

Light art projections are among the arts projects Council has supported in the past, and Council has two 12-kilowatt light art projectors available for loan. In recent times, these have been used in the Te Ramaroa and Matariki celebrations and can project large-scale artworks onto buildings.

Other recently supported projects include First Flight, a play exploring our cultural heritage and celebrating the region’s 100th Anniversary of Flight.
