Awatea Place Christmas update

16/12/2022 12:51pm

Work to connect the new Awatea Pump Station to the wastewater network will take a break over the Christmas holiday period, with work stopping between 23 December and 9 January.

Some traffic management will stay in place, with detours during the break and this is outlined on the map above. Full road closures will resume in the new year to complete work in Parkers Road.

Our contractor has made steady progress with the sheet piling work, which is necessary to create a safe trench where workers are installing the new wastewater pipes. Progress has been slower than expected and we expect to complete excavation work at the Golf Road intersection by late February 2023, with work then moving back to the Awatea Place intersection.

Both old pump stations at these intersections will be decommissioned, with pipes being diverted to the new Awatea Place Pump Station network.

Upgrading these old pump stations will help to prevent wastewater overflows, cater for future development in the area and minimise the impact of heavy rainfall events.

We appreciate there may be some inconvenience and we thank you for your patience and willingness to work with our activities while we get the job done. Best wishes for the holidays!
