Flying the flags in Nelson - Do you have a great idea for a flag?
19/08/2019 3:24amFollowing the direction taken by other Councils in the country, a new street banner system has been installed around the city.
It’s called FlagTrax and it means the banners can easily be swapped in and out at ground level – no cherry picker required.
That makes it quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive every time the banners are changed. It will open more opportunities for organisations to promote an event or an artistic initiative throughout the city centre.
The poles on Bridge Street East also feature new adapted blue lights at night, giving some extra sparkle to the streets after dark.
The Nelson Arts Festival banners are the first to grace the new poles, but they will be updated regularly with different events and artwork.
Do you have a great idea for a banner?
On behalf of Nelson City Council, Arts Council Nelson is thrilled to invite artists and designers from the Nelson region to submit design proposals for this exciting FlagTrax project.
The aim is to brighten up the city streets by creating 80 uniquely designed flags for display between major events, which will add diversity and colour, to spectacularly showcase local art in our Smart Little City.
We seek a diverse range of designs which are colourful, interesting, positive and fun. With this in mind, we welcome images from all ages, walks of life and ability, so that we can select 80 final designs to create the flags.
Each selected artist will receive $300 for allowing Nelson City Council to use their image for this purpose.
UPDATED: The deadline has been extended until Friday 15 November for artists and designers from the Nelson region to submit banner design proposals for the exciting new FlagTrax project.
Please note that there are specific size requirements, so make sure you carefully read the terms and conditions of entry, available at Arts Council Nelson's website.
