Founders playground back in full swing

The playground at Founders Heritage Park has been expanded and upgraded just in time for summer.

The upgrade took eight weeks and cost $50,000, funded through proceeds from the Founders Annual Book Fair.

The upgrade involved extending the playground at both ends; repairing, refurbishing and reinstalling the heritage carousel; repairing and refurbishing the mini windmill; repainting the slide, swing set and see-saw; installing four new warped mirrors, a new raised stage and seating area for performances; repairing the fence; levelling the ground and replenishing the bark; and installing a new spinning turnstile for younger children.

The Friends of Founders Trust held a morning tea earlier this month to celebrate the completion of the project and give the updated equipment a test run. Students from Clifton Terrace School also visited the playground that same morning.

The Friends of Founders Trust says the group was delighted to see funds raised from the book fair used for this project.

“We are thrilled to see children enjoying the brightly coloured refurbished equipment, especially with the fun addition of the mirrors.”

Group Manager Community Services Andrew White says the upgrade is a good way to give back to the community and thank them for their support of Founders and the book fair over the years.

“This upgrade has made the playground more user-friendly for children and families to enjoy. The park is free for locals to visit, and the playground is right next to the café, which means parents can relax and enjoy a coffee while children play. We hope this will encourage more of our community to spend time in the park this summer.”

Founders Heritage Park is open seven days a week, 10am to 4:30pm (closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day). The café is open Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00am to 2:00pm and Friday to Sunday from 10:00am to 4:30pm.
