Help restore the Bristol Freighter at Founders Heritage Park!
08/11/2024 12:48pm
John Kelly (aviation engineer) and Roy West (retired pilot) have generously donated their time, expertise, and
workshop premises to help refurbish the Bristol Freighter at Founders.
They’re after a few more volunteers as they near the final stages of the project and prepare the plane for painting.
If you’re interested in helping with sanding panels, drilling rivets, talking about planes, eating cake and drinking tea, please get in touch with John on 021 128 9579.
The only requirement is a sense of humour.
The Bristol Freighter Merchant Buccaneer landed in Nelson on the Wakapuaka mudflats in 1986 and was towed to Founders Heritage Park. It is one of four remaining in New Zealand and has been a favourite of visitors to the park since its installation in 1986.
The wonderful Friends of Founders (who bring us the Founders Annual Bookfair) started the initiative to refurbish the aircraft and have generously funded this project.
