The heritage features of Nelson’s privately owned heritage homes are an important part of our history but can be expensive to maintain for owners.

In recognition of the higher costs of looking after a heritage building, Nelson City Council offers rates remissions to owners of buildings listed as Group A or B heritage buildings in the Nelson Resource Management Plan.

Remissions of rates for heritage properties operate over a three-year cycle, with this year the first in the
current cycle.

Owners of eligible heritage-listed properties will receive a letter inviting them to apply for the rating year 1
July 2021 – 30 June 2022. All heritage property owners will need to reapply this year for the 2021 to 2023 cycle.

Applications for the heritage building rates remissions close at 5pm on Tuesday, 31 August 2021.
