Hinau track now open in the Grampians Reserve

Get your walking shoes on! A new track is now open linking Hinau St in the Brook to the Grampians Walkway trig station at the top of the Collingwood zig zag.

The new track will make it much easier to access the Grampians’ stunning views and tracks from the Brook side of the hill.

The Hinau track has been a couple of years in the making, due to disruptions from flooding and difficulty in removing pine trees. A big thanks to Dave from NLR and Kumanu for their hard work.

To know before you go:

The track starts at the end of Hinau Street and it takes about 20 minutes to reach the top.

Please ensure that you stick to the track and take extra care in wet conditions as the new track may become muddy and slippery in places (the worst areas will be progressively gravelled).

There is a known pest plant problem in the area, notably an infestation of climbing asparagus. This will be brought under control as part of Council’s wider weed control programme.

Dogs are welcome but please keep them on a lead when stock animals are in the reserve. Heading uphill, please be aware that once you pass through the gate at the top and join the Grampians Walkway, sheep may be grazing.

There will be a wider upgrade to signage in the Grampians in due course and further new trails will be opening on the Brook side, hopefully later in the year.
