Nelson Mayor Hon Dr Nick Smith was joined by councillors, kaumātua, Nelson City Council staff, Nelson MP Rachel Boyack MP, and British Deputy High Commissioner Sam Pass at a ceremonial tree planting to mark the coronation of His Majesty Charles III.

A special guest was former Nelson City Councillor Derek Shaw who was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the environment, local government and athletics as part of the Kings Birthday Honours.

Pupils from Tāhunanui School helped with the planting while Nelson College for Girls students Briana Williams and Bronte Morton lead lovely renditions of E Ihowā Atua – NZ National Anthem and God Save the King.
