Work has started to reinstate a section of the Maitai Shared Walkway that has been closed since the severe weather event last August.

The site was established on 16 June with trucks and rocks arriving at Clouston Terrace at the end of the walkway, with work beginning on Monday 19 June. To complete the work as quickly as possible the contractor will be working Monday – Sunday until the end of June.

Once completed, the pathway will be more resilient to future heavy rainfall events with a retaining wall built on the hillside above the track to prevent further slips.

This section of track has been closed to the public since August 2022, but has still been used by many people. When the work takes place the closure will be a strict one as this will be an active work site.

Thanks for your patience while we carry out this vital work.
