If you are a group or individual working  to improve the health of Nelson’s natural environment, you may be eligible for an Environmental Grant.

In 2019-2020, environmental grants totaling $314,214 were awarded to 61 groups or individuals to support a range of environmental outcomes including protecting and restoring wetlands, streams, native forest and biodiversity corridors and managing highly erodible land.

Funding was provided through Council’s Nelson Nature, Healthy Streams and Sustainable Land Management programmes, with approximately half of the grant funding provided through MPI’s Hill Country Erosion Fund.

Feedback from applicants on the new grants scheme has been overwhelmingly positive.
