A Summer Movies Al Fresco screening of Whale Rider at Fairfield Park.

Make the most of Nelson Tasman’s warm summer evenings and enjoy a movie under the stars with Summer Movies Al Fresco.

Taking place in parks throughout the region, Summer Movies Al Fresco this year incorporates some modern classics into its line-up and finishes with a special screening of What Really Happened; Waitangi 2011 at Founders Heritage Park on Waitangi Day, Saturday 6 February.

Community and Recreation Committee Chair Tim Skinner said the movies were another great reason to get out and enjoy the many parks our region has to offer.

“There’s something really special about going along to an open-air movie, and combining that with the beautiful natural environment of our parks really enhances that experience into something pretty magical. I encourage everyone to go along and have that experience for themselves.”

Some screenings will be shown with English subtitles for the deaf, hard of hearing or viewers with English as a second language.

Most parks are flat, grassy surfaces and have accessible toilets, except Fairfield Park.

Gather a group, a picnic, and something warm to wrap up in, and join us at the venue from 7:30pm to play giant board games, enjoy the park and watch the regions’ glorious summer sunsets. Movies start at 9pm and depending on runtime, finish about 11pm. Cost $2 adult, $1 child.

Please bring a torch to light your way home, and don’t forget to take your rubbish with you.

If it looks like rain, please text “Is it on?” to 021776623 after 7.30pm.
