Art projects with a community benefit could be eligible for a Nelson City Creative Communities Local Arts Fund grant.

Public painting workshops, youth film making programmes, roving street theatre and public concerts are among the projects that have previously benefitted from the fund, and applications are open again now.

Funded by Creative NZ and administered by Arts Council Nelson on behalf of Nelson City Council, applications to the fund must have a clear community benefit in that they increase community participation, extend the diversity of the arts available to the city and/or offer opportunities for youth engagement.

There is no limit to the size of the grant that can be requested, but in order to assist as many projects as possible, the average grant size is $1200-$1500 per project.

Applications are assessed by a committee made up of Council and community representatives. Applicants are expected to make some contribution to the cost of their projects.

The final round for the 20/21 financial year has $23,000 available for allocation. Applications close on 1 March 2021. Further details and application forms can be found on the Arts Council Nelson website
