Experience rugby history: All Blacks vs Argentina game day fan trail

24/08/2018 10:45am

Nelson is excited to be hosting the All Blacks versus Argentina Investec Rugby Championship test match at Trafalgar Park on 8 September and something extra special is happening alongside this major event…

With Nelson being the birthplace of rugby in New Zealand in 1870, it is only fair that we celebrate the historic occasion of our first ever All Blacks test match with a BIG pre-game street party in the Nelson CBD from 1pm - 5:30pm for everyone to experience and enjoy, whether they are going to the game or not.

The whole city is getting involved and you can be part of the fun too!

Upper Trafalgar Street will be closed to vehicles and the main stage at 1903 Square will entertain you with high energy performances throughout the afternoon.

Enjoy Kiwi and Argentinian culture, local artisan food, history, entertainment and a dedicated family fun area where kids can be entertained and have their faces painted in their team colours.

Explore the shops, galleries, cafes, bars and restaurants, then make your way to the game and participate in rugby history! Alternatively, if you don’t have a ticket, stay in town to watch the game at one of the many bars and restaurants.

This event is all about the birth place of rugby in Nelson, celebrating this historic occasion, having fun with the whole family and enjoying our beautiful Nelson city.

To make it even easier to be part of the fun, there's free transport from 12pm. Nelson City Council is putting on free buses from Richmond, travelling along the usual NBus routes, to pick up passengers through Stoke, Tahunanui and along Waimea Road into Nelson city.

Just hop on and join in the fun. With an influx of more than 21,000 people expected for the game, plus street closures around Trafalgar Park and the central city, it’s vital to leave home early in the afternoon and make a day of it in town. Then wander down to Trafalgar Park at 5.30pm when the gates open.

A live band will entertain and you can see both rugby teams warm up before kick-off.

Visit the dedicated page on the Nelson Tasman website gamedaynelson.nz where you will find more information, or download the Nelson App for an opportunity to win and get live updates from 24 August.

There are still limited tickets available to the game, so get in quick. These can be purchased at the official ticketing website allblacks.com

Don't miss your chance to be part of rugby history!
