An online competition is being launched to encourage people to reduce textile waste as well as save money.

Join the Op Shop Street Hop competition on the Nelson City Council Facebook page, and tell us your best tips for op shopping – where to go, what to look for, and even share a photo of your best op shop purchase.

All comments will go in the draw for a $50 voucher towards your next op shop shopping spree.

Global clothing production has doubled since 2000, with the average person buying 60 percent more items every year, but only keeping them for half as long.

Reusing clothes is an action we can all take to not only save money, but also to be kind to our environment.

Don’t forget that op shops depend on your donations of used clothes and goods to continue to be fabulous shopping destinations.

To enter the competition, go to the Nelson City Council Facebook page: competition starts Monday 19 October.

You can view the latest Op Shop map on the Nelson City Council website.
