Our much-loved Summer Events programme is in full swing, and there are a couple of fixtures coming up that you won’t want to miss.

You’re invited to dance your way into 2019 in the city centre with the New Year’s Eve countdown.  This year a line-up of live bands take to the stage at the top of Trafalgar Street to welcome in the New Year, featuring local acts Immigrants and Zorn before headline act Blue River Baby Band.  The six-piece originals bands from Wellington, BRBB is billed as an energetic explosion of soul, psychedelic rock, R&B, funk and ska.

Community Services Committee Chair, Gaile Noonan says it sounds like a fabulous celebration to see out the year and welcome in 2019.

“It’s a family-friendly event with no alcohol and the celebrations include fireworks following the midnight countdown to the New Year. It’s a great way to enjoy the last few hours of 2018. You can also make the most of our great outdoors by catching an al fresco movie. They’re screening until the end of January and a chance to see a classic movie outside on a big screen, in one of our beautiful recreational parks.”
