An off-road cycle route from the Airport to Nelson City will be one step closer this summer with construction of the Tahunanui Reserve to Parker's Cove connection set to begin next week (19 August).

This 1.4km long shared pathway will include a 270m long boardwalk and follow the perimeter of the Tahuna Beach Motor Camp, connecting the existing shared pathway at Hounsell Circle to Parkers Road.

This will eventually form part of the Great Taste Trail when a connection from Nelson Airport to Parker's Road and the Rocks Road walking and cycling improvements are complete. This recreational route will offer stunning views across Tasman Bay to the Western Ranges and being away from road traffic it is expected to be popular for both bikes and walkers.

Construction is expected to take up to three months and will be open in November time for the summer season. There may be some minor disruption at Parker's Cove car park, the back beach estuary and the Tahuna Beach Motor Camp access road during this time so please be courteous and follow instructions of signs and workers.

This is a Nelson Tasman Cycle Trails Trust project, supported by Nelson City Council and MBIE.
