How to use our courtesy crossings

With the central city experiencing its busy summer period, there have been some reports of confusion about how our courtesy crossings should be used.

Firstly it’s important to know that courtesy crossings (the raised platforms) are not official pedestrian crossings. The purpose of the change in surface is to alert the driver to reduce their speed and to be aware of pedestrians.

Pedestrians
Don’t just step out onto the crossing. Have a look first, make eye contact with the driver and smile. Remember to let cars cross if they have been waiting a while.

Drivers
Go slow, smile and remember that pedestrians are fragile. Please let pedestrians cross if they have been waiting a while.
Slow down, take care and we’ll all get where we are going safely.
